Thanks to Ying who extended her complimentary tickets to us and I was the lucky one to grab it.

I had the opportunity to watch Sacred Monsters at the esplanade theatre last night (almost front row seats too...worth $116 each). We were a little doubtful about watching it based on what we read and heard - 90 mins, two dances, dancing with no intermission. How undreadful could that possibly be?

We were stunned.

Imagine; a monologue, a dialogue interspersed with rapid and energetic dance movements that didnt fail to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Sacred Monsters dwelled into your inner fears, your continuous second guessing yourself, having to be somebody in order to fit in, your innermost thoughts, and overly worrying about your ability to deliver rather than just delivering. All caught in dialogues or monologues by the dancers. Questions after questions of being a raised a Muslim yet having to dance the role of Krishna, the Hindu God, "do i need to dress and look like him to dance like him?; a French woman learning to speak Italian with the aid of the American's Peanuts and Charlie Brown comics; and being called Sally in her English classes while all along her name was Sylvie.

...geez..tribute to the dancers - Akhram Khan and Sylvie Guillem (shes amazing!)

For those who wants to catch a glimpse of what it is like, an equally ardent friend of mine found this:

Trivia - learnt yesterday that the Singapore Arts Festival is ranked second in Asia. Second only to Japan's. And these tickets were bought by Taiwanese who had actually planned to come to Singapore just to catch this festival. Amazing how little we Singaporeans know about our own stuff.

...I just want to be in love.

Saw this on someone else's blog. At first read, I couldnt actually get it. But after a second read, I realised how beautifully written this was:

If I knew you and you knew me,
If both of us could clearly see,
And with an inner sight divine
The meaning of your heart and mine.

I'm sure we would differ less,
and clasp our hands in lovingness,
Our thoughts would pleasantly agree
If I knew you and you knew me
